Hay formas de viajar que son autóctonas al siglo que corre y que inundan las redes sociales. Hay otras que, aunque facilitadas por la tecnología, son mucho más antiguas y respetan solo los itinerarios del azar. Para las primeras, hay guías de viaje. Para las segundas, hay libros como este, el reporte condensado de un viajero que recorre el planeta y se deja llevar principalmente por la densidad de los materiales humanos que encuentra. Aquí, el lugar turístico se deja a un lado y en vez del Louvre, se privilegia un aeropuerto en Ámsterdam, un cementerio en Hsinchu, un Jardín Botánico en Johannesburgo: espacios en los que, bonita o no, se halla la vida cuajándose. 

There are ways of traveling that are native to the current century and flood social media. There are others that, although facilitated by technology, are much older and follow only the routes of chance. For the first, there are travel guides. For the second, there are books like this one—a condensed report from a traveler who roams the planet, guided mainly by the density of the human materials he encounters. Here, tourist spots are set aside, and instead of the Louvre, priority is given to an airport in Amsterdam, a cemetery in Hsinchu, a Botanical Garden in Johannesburg: spaces where life, whether beautiful or not, is found taking shape.
